Track & Field shines at Black Bear Invite, Mussulman snaps pole vault record

Exeter track and field turned in a strong performance at the Coe-Brown Black Bear Invitational, powered by a record-breaking effort from Dana Mussulman and a deep, balanced showing across both squads. The Big Red boys claimed the team title with 136.5 points, while the girls delivered a strong runner-up finish with 77 points.

Mussulman headlined the day with a historic performance in the pole vault, breaking his own school record with a meet-record clearance of 14-02.00 to take first place. He added to his standout day in the field with a third-place finish in the javelin (158-04), while teammate Carter Johnson placed second in the event (167-03).

On the track, Alex Harwich led the way, winning the 300m hurdles in 39.14 and placing second in the 110m hurdles in 15.38. Exeter's middle-distance group also impressed, with Truman Yee capturing first in the 800m (1:57.35) and Marcus Kiehl finishing close behind in second (1:59.01). Rhys Cunningham added a second-place finish in the 400m (51.32), while Bo Howland-Vlahakis delivered a runner-up performance in the 1600m (4:21.40). In the field events, Shaib Abubakar threw to a first-place finish in the shot put (50-03.75), and Griffin Breault added a second-place effort in the triple jump (40-10.00). Exeter's relay teams capped the day with strong performances, as the 4x800m relay of Howland-Vlahakis, Owen Welch, Truman Yee, and Marcus Kiehl raced to first place in 4:06.62, while the 4x400m relay of CJ Deal, Elias Warner, Collin Moore, and Harwich took second in 3:31.18.

On the girls side, Lily Sabol led the way with a first-place finish in the 300m hurdles (47.30), while Julia Malysa captured the 1600m title in 5:19.78. Norah Pratt followed closely with a second-place finish in the same event (5:26.27).
Akanye Okuneye added a second-place finish in the 200m (26.69), contributing to a strong day on the track. Exeter's relays continued to shine, with the 4x800m team of Malysa, Olivia Littlefield, Pratt, and Alice Rourke placing second in 10:27.83. The 4x400m relay of Rylie Choi, Okuneye, Sabol, and Anna Taormina also earned a runner-up finish, crossing in 8:18.32.
