Mussulman breaks longstanding pole vault record

Exeter track and field turned in a memorable performance in the William Boyce Thompson Field House on Wednesday afternoon, led by a historic effort from Dana Mussulman. Mussulman set a new Exeter program record in the pole vault, clearing 14-01.00 to surpass the previous mark of 14-00.50 established by Cameron Hawley '79. He added another strong result in the field by placing third in the long jump with a leap of 19-06.00, capping an outstanding all-around day for Big Red.

Caden Green followed with another headline-worthy performance, winning the shot put with a massive throw of 61-09.50. The mark currently ranks ninth in the United States this season and continues to place Green among the nation's top throwers.

In the 600 meters, Alex Harwich captured first place with a time of 1:25.85, while Owen Cosgrove finished second in 1:27.51 and Ved Reddy took third in 1:30.73. Cosgrove also too home first place in the mile in 4:34.50, with Asher Bravo placing second at 4:58.36 and Ethan Benenson close behind in third at 4:58.82. Marcus Kiehl controlled the two-mile race to earn first place in 9:55.88.

The sprint events also produced strong finishes for Exeter, as Fogo Filani placed second in the 55 meters with a time of 6.83 and Aaron Spence finished third in 6.92. Griffin Breault added a pair of podium performances, running to second place in the 300 meters in 38.25 before winning the high jump with a clearance of 5-10.00. In the throwing events, Shaib Abubakar earned second place in the shot put with a throw of 47-06.25. The boys also found success in the 1000 meters, where Ved Reddy finished second in 2:50.94 and Josh Mullen placed third in 2:51.17.

The girls squad matched that momentum with a series of strong results. Harper Peters led the way in the middle distances, finishing second in the 600 meters in 1:48.24 before returning to win the 1000 meters in 3:16.76. Norah Pratt added a third-place finish in the 600 meters with a time of 1:48.62, while Julia Malysa placed second in the 1000 meters at 3:17.02. Olivia Littlefield earned a first-place finish in the mile, crossing the line in 5:46.40.

Distance events continued to be a strength on the girls side, as Alice Rourke placed second in the two mile in 11:57.67 and Eliza Grossman followed in third at 12:11.01. Kelechi Ugbala delivered a strong run in the 300 meters to finish second in 45.14, while the shot put saw Abibatou Sagna place second with a throw of 29-00.00 and Lauren Cooper finish third at 28-10.00.
