Exeter football stormed back from a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat Cheshire, 41-24, in a thrilling home matchup on Phelps Stadium on Saturday.
Trailing 24-14 at the half, Exeter came out of the gate in explosive fashion in the third quarter.
Amari Lewis took a pass from
Jake Attaway 56-yards to the end zone to cut the deficit to four, with Cheshire holding a 24-20 lead.
Luke Rogers would end the ensuing Cheshire drive as he intercepted a pass in the end zone and returned it 73-yards to set up a Big Red score. He then capped the drive himself with a 23-yard reverse run behind a convoy of blockers, giving Exeter its first lead, 27-24.
The Big Red offense kept rolling. On third-and-8 from the 24, Attaway found
Caden Drobinski for his second touchdown reception of the day, this time in the back of the end zone to extend the lead to 34-24.
Tyrone Neal sealed the win with a 46-yard touchdown run with 2:40 remaining, capping a dominant second half in which Exeter outscored Cheshire 27-0.
Attaway accounted for four touchdowns, finding Lewis,
Liam Mall, and twice hooking up with Drobinski. Lewis made his mark on both sides of the ball, also grabbing an interception on Cheshire's second play from scrimmage.
Big Red is back in action next Saturday when they travel to Williston Northampton for a 4:30pm kickoff.
