Exeter football earned a well-rounded 59–26 win over Suffield on Saturday, highlighted by a steady performance from quarterback
Jake Attaway, who contributed both through the air and on the ground to help guide Big Red's offense.
Attaway opened the scoring on Exeter's first drive, scrambling into the end zone from 14 yards out for an early 7–0 lead. After a defensive stand at the goal line, the offense built on that momentum as Attaway broke free for a 66-yard run to set up a 27-yard field goal by
Henry Baldic. On the next possession, Attaway connected with
Liam Mall on a well-placed 38-yard touchdown pass to make it 17–0.
Suffield responded with a score, but Big Red answered with a composed drive capped by a nine-yard touchdown run from
Fogo Filani, thanks in part to key plays from Mall and
Tyrone Neal to keep the chains moving. Mall gained a 19-yard on a gritty catch-and-run on 3
rd and 20 before Neal kept the drive alive with a strong run on 4
th and 1. Before halftime, Attaway added a second rushing touchdown—this time from seven yards out—to give Exeter a 31–13 advantage at the break.
Neal extended the lead early in the third quarter with a 48-yard touchdown run through the middle, and Attaway later found
Brayden Murch for a seven-yard touchdown pass to make it 45–13. From there, Exeter maintained control on both sides of the ball to close out the 59–26 victory.
It was a complete effort for Big Red, who improve to 5-2 on the season and will play host to Andover in the regular season finale next Saturday at 4:45pm in Phelps Stadium.
