Big Red football earned a thrilling 36-27 victory on the road at the Brunswick School on a bright, brisk Saturday afternoon. The win improves Exeter to a perfect 6-0 on the season and head into the week preparing for Williston Northampton in what will be Big Red's home finale on Saturday.
Exeter trailed Brunswick early as the hosts ran for a score and threw for another to post a 14-0 edge early in the first quarter. Big Red would respond quickly as JJ Bright took a handoff around the left side, followed key blocks from Adrian Bozzo and
Michael Gidaro, and scampered 54 yards for the score to cut the Brunswick lead in half.
The Exeter offense would explode for another big run, this time from
Myles Craddock as he took off for a 70-yard touchdown to even the score. Craddock's score was sprung from another key block from Gidaro coming around the left side.
Big Red would grab a lead early in the second quarter when
Preston Otter completed a 19-yard pass to
Isaiah Reese, who broke a tackle on his way to the end zone. Otter would plummet into the end zone on a quarterback keeper for a successful two-point attempt as the visitors jumped ahead 22-14. Brunswick would pull within one with a 36-yard run that went for a score as the teams went into halftime with Exeter leading 22-21.
Exeter would cushion their lead with the lone score of the third quarter when JJ Bright broke through the line and pulled away from the Brunswick defense for a 26-yard touchdown run, his second of the game. Big Red put the exclamation point on the game when Craddock scored his second touchdown of the game with run from 11-yards out as Big Red built a 36-21 lead.
Brunswick added a touchdown late in the fourth to cut the deficit to 36-27, but Big Red was able to convert a first down on the ground and run out the clock to secure the win.
Exeter will welcome Williston to campus on Saturday, November 2
nd for a 4:30pm kickoff in Phelps Stadium.
