Exeter softball relied on a dominant performance in the circle and timely execution at the plate to earn a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tilton on Wednesday afternoon.
Regan Coco led the way for Big Red with a complete-game effort. The right-hander struck out nine while allowing just six hits and one unearned run across seven innings, keeping Tilton off balance and limiting scoring opportunities in key moments.
Offensively, Ella Smith set the tone from the leadoff spot with a standout performance. Smith went 3-for-4 with a double and scored both of Exeter's runs, consistently putting pressure on the Rams' defense.
Paige Sweet added to the effort with a productive day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double and drawing two walks to help keep innings alive.
Exeter's defense also played a pivotal role in preserving the lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning, with a runner on base,
Chiara Kimmel delivered a highlight-reel diving catch in left field to slow a potential rally and maintain Big Red's lead.
Big Red returns to action on Friday with a road matchup at Lawrence Academy scheduled for 5:30pm.
