Paisley Meyer scored four times to power Exeter girls hockey to a 7–4 road victory over North Yarmouth Academy on Wednesday afternoon.
Meyer set the tone immediately, striking twice in the opening 38 seconds. She opened the scoring just 18 seconds into the game on a breakaway, then followed 20 seconds later by finishing a pass from linemate
Erin Sears to give Big Red a quick 2–0 advantage.
Dominique Reiher extended the lead with nine minutes remaining in the first period to make it 3–0, though NYA responded late in the frame to cut the deficit to 3–1 heading into the first intermission.
The back-and-forth nature of the contest continued in the second period. North Yarmouth Academy scored early to make it a one-goal game at 3–2, but
Lainey Fortney answered for Exeter, finding the back of the net early in the period to restore a two-goal cushion. NYA again pulled within one with 8:45 remaining, before Exeter responded immediately. Off the ensuing faceoff, Big Red won the draw and Meyer buried a rebound off a shot from
Maria Gray to push the lead back to 5–3. Exeter added another crucial goal in the final minute of the second period when
Mia Griffith snapped home a shot from the top of the zone off a feed from
Samantha Crowley, giving Big Red a 6–3 edge.
Meyer capped her four-goal performance in the third period, ripping a shot from the slot into the top corner to seal the win.
With the victory, Exeter remains undefeated at 5–0–2 on the season. Big Red returns home on Friday night to host Cushing Academy, with puck drop set for 6:15 p.m.
