Exeter boys hockey delivered a dominant third period performance to earn a 3–1 win over Vermont Academy, erasing an early deficit with three unanswered goals and controlling play throughout the night.
Big Red trailed 1–0 after the opening period despite carrying much of the play. Exeter kept pressing, generating quality chances and spending extended time in the offensive zone, but could not convert.
The breakthrough came early in the third period. Just 3:47 into the frame,
Noah Poinsett-Yoshida pulled Exeter even, finishing a play set up by
Cam Fiasconaro and
Aiden Craft to spark the comeback.
Momentum quickly swung in Big Red's favor. At 7:01 of the third,
Eric Bagg gave Exeter its first lead of the night, converting a feed from
Joe Sasso with Craft earning his second assist of the game. Bagg capped the scoring at 14:05, burying his second goal of the period off a setup from
Jack Marquardt to make it 3–1.
Between the pipes,
Brendan Petraco was outstanding, turning aside 30 of 31 shots to anchor the win. Exeter outshot Vermont Academy by a commanding 54–31 margin.
Big Red will be back in action when they travel to Governor's Academy on Wednesday for a 3:00pm puck drop.
