Boys varsity basketball advanced to the NEPSAC Class A Finals with an 82-67 victory over Tabor Academy this afternoon in Love Gym. The defending Class A champions, Big Red is in search of their second straight title. The championship matchup will take place at 4:30pm on the campus of Suffield Academy.
Tabor jumped out to a 13-2 lead early in the opening half before Big Red went on an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to two points. Exeter grabbed their first lead at the six-minute mark when
Ryder Frost connected for a three from the top of the key to give the hosts a 25-24 edge. The Big Red offense remained in rhythm in the final six minutes of the half and built a 40-33 advantage at the break.
Big Red continued to hit shots and stifle the Tabor offense on the defensive end and built a lead as big as 19-points in the second half.
Luke Soden helped carry the load in the final 16-minutes, pouring in 15 of his 24 points in the second half.
Ryder Frost led all scorers with 28 points, including 20 in the opening half.
Cade Furse added 14 while Rob Blandburg added eight for Big Red.
Exeter, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, will play the winner of top-seed Williston and No. 4 seed Choate.
