Exeter boys basketball continued its strong surge with a thrilling victory on the road, erasing a late deficit and pulling away in overtime for a 66–55 win at Deerfield on Saturday afternoon. The victory — fueled by a clutch shot in the final seconds of regulation and a commanding overtime period — marks eight straight wins for Big Red and their 14th in the last 15 games, improving to 15–5 on the season.
Trailing by three with 30 seconds to play in regulation,
Christian Chartier buried a contested, step-back three, sending the game to overtime tied at 53–53.
Deerfield struck first in the extra session, but from that point forward it was all Big Red. Exeter unleashed a decisive 13–0 run to seize full control of the game.
Alex Hamblet provided the spark, scoring six in OT to help flip the momentum and gave Exeter breathing room as Big Red closed the door in emphatic fashion.
Cole McClure was sensational throughout, pouring in a game-high 28 points and consistently delivering in key moments. Chartier finished with 11 points, none bigger than the clutch triple that forced overtime.
With the victory, Exeter continues its hot stretch and will look to keep the momentum rolling when they host Tilton on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. inside Love Gym.
