A thrilling third and overtime period lifted Exeter boys hockey past Winchendon 4-3 this afternoon on the Big Red home ice.
Trailing 2-1 entering the third, senior
Will Cavanagh evened the game two minutes in the period. Winchendon would reclaim a one goal advantage midway through the period before Cavanagh struck once again in the final minute of regulation. With the Big Red goalie pulled, Exeter won an offensive zone face off back to Cavanagh who ripped a shot into the top right corner of the goal to send the game into overtime.
In the extra frame, Jack Rackauskus collected a pass sent from behind the net and deposited the game-winner into the upper left corner as Big Red earned a hard fought 4-3 victory.
Exeter will welcome rival Andover to campus on Saturday as part of E/A Weekend. Puck drop is slated for 4:15p.
