Exeter boys hockey scored a 3-2 overtime win over St. Sebastian's School in a Saturday afternoon thriller in Exeter.
Cam Fiasconaro got the scoring starting early in the second period. With Big Red on the power play,
Noah Poinsett-Yoshida found
Jack Marquardt in the middle of the offensive zone who slid the puck to Fiasconaro who blasted the puck into the left side of the net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
After back-and-forth play through the middle of the period, St. Sebastian's would score a power play goal of their own in the final minute of the period to even the game at 1-1 heading into the second period.
Just 51 seconds into the third period, Big Red would jump back ahead when
Aiden Craft took a feed from Poinsett-Yoshida and beat the St. Sebastian's goalie with a beautiful backhand to put Exeter back ahead, 2-1. Alex Stalh was also credited with an assist on the play.
The Arrows would even the game with a goal with 7:38 remaining in regulation and the game would tilt into overtime knotted at 2-2. Exeter used a quick strike again as Marquardt buried the game-winner just 56 seconds into the extra period. Once again, it was Poinsett-Yoshida and Stahl who sent the puck around to the tape of Marquardt's stick for the power play goal.
Lucas Mesika was outstanding in net for the hosts, kicking away 32 of 34 shots on the afternoon.
Big Red will return to their home ice on Wednesday, December 17 when they play host to New Hampton. Â
