Exeter boys varsity squash opened their season in impressive fashion on the road at Milton Academy, powering to a 6–1 victory over the Mustangs. Big Red won a pair of thrillers while controlling the middle of the ladder en route to the win.
Max Liu set the tone with one of the day's grittiest performances at No. 2, outlasting his opponent in a five-game thriller, 11–9, 5–11, 8–11, 11–6, 11–7.
Matias Yau followed with a comeback of his own at No. 3, rallying to win another five-gamer, 6–11, 11–8, 7–11, 11–7, 11–9.
Exeter dominated the middle of the lineup, where
Evan Chen cruised at No. 4 with a decisive 11–1, 11–6, 11–5 sweep, and
Ryan Wang earned a straight-games win at No. 5, closing out a tight third game to prevail 11–3, 11–6, 12–10.
The momentum continued as
Andrew Chen delivered a steady 11–9, 11–7, 11–6 win at No. 6, and William Samuels capped the day with a composed performance at No. 7, taking his match 11–7, 13–11, 11–8.
Big Red will return to Exeter and play host to St. Mark's School on Saturday, December 13 at 2:30p.
