Exeter boys hockey delivered an early-season thriller on Wednesday night, erasing a three-goal deficit in the third period before securing a 5–4 overtime victory over Stanstead.
Holding a 3-1 lead entering the third period, Stanstead would extend their advantage to 4-1 with a tally with 12:19 remaining in regulation. Exeter's offense then kicked into high gear.
With 7:36 left in the third, Jack Marquart jump-started the comeback, cutting the deficit to 4–2. Just 41 seconds later,
Tyler Callander struck to make it a one-goal game and swing all momentum to the hosts. Exeter kept pushing, and Marquart delivered again—this time the equalizer—hammering home the game-tying goal with 3:05 left to force overtime.
In the extra frame, Exeter completed the comeback in dramatic fashion. With 1:06 on the clock,
Joe Sasso found the winner, finishing off a feed from
Noah Poinsett-Yoshida to seal the 5–4 victory.
Big Red, 2-0-0 on the season, will return to their home ice on Friday when they play host to Kents Hill at 4:30pm.
