Exeter cross country turned in a strong all-around performance in the annual rivalry meet against Andover, earning team victories in three of the four races on the day.
In the boys varsity race, Big Red dominated the field, placing four runners among the top five to claim a decisive 20–36 victory.
Bo Howland-Vlahakis led the charge with a commanding win, crossing the finish line in 15:21—more than a full minute ahead of the next finisher.
Owen Welch (3rd, 16:38),
Truman Yee (4th, 16:54), and Will Miller (5th, 16:59) sealed Exeter's win, while
Artur Novaes Ferreira (7th, 17:19) also turned in a strong performance.
The girls varsity race proved to be a tight contest, with Exeter and Andover alternating spots throughout the top ten finishers.
Harper Peters led the way for Big Red with a runner-up finish in 18:31, followed closely by
Ava Bullock (4th, 18:43), Nora Pratt (6th, 19:34), Annika Nysedt (8th, 20:10), and
Alice Rourke (10th, 20:14). Despite the strong showing, Andover edged out Exeter, 25–30.
Exeter's depth shone in the junior varsity races. The boys JV squad swept the top three spots en route to a 23–32 win, paced by
Neal Veeranna's first-place finish in 17:57. He was followed closely by
James Travis (2nd, 18:06) and
Owen Cosgrove (3rd, 18:09), while
Mitchell Carson (8th, 18:29) and
Sollie Beer (9th, 18:40) rounded out the scoring five.
The girls JV team capped the day with another victory, defeating Andover 23–34 behind a dominant pack performance.
Jocelyn Wen (1st, 20:28) led the field, with
Sophia Butler (3rd, 20:47),
Emerson Seymour (5th, 21:08), and
Priscilla Lu (6th, 21:15) all finishing in the top six to secure the win.
Exeter will compete at the New England Division I Championships next Saturday at the Taft School. The Big Red boys varsity squad will look to capture their sixth straight title while the girls varsity harriers aim for their sixth title in the last eleven years. The girls varsity race will kick start the afternoon of competition at 1:30pm. The boys varsity race will follow at 2:15pm while the girls JV (3:00pm) and boys JV (3:45pm) will round out the day.
