Cross country shines in home debut

Exeter cross country made a strong impression in its home debut on Saturday afternoon, hosting St. Paul's School and Winsor School for a tri-meet on the Big Red trails. The hosts performed well throughout the day sweeping boys varsity, girls varsity, boys JV, and girls JV races.

In the boys varsity race, Bo Howland-Vlahakis continued his undefeated season with another commanding performance, taking first place in 16:14 over the 5k course. Owen Welch (16:35) and Will Miller (16:43) followed close behind to complete a Big Red sweep of the top three spots, while Truman Yee finished fifth overall in 16:54.

On the girls side, Ava Bullock added another win to her stellar season, crossing the finish line inside Phelps Stadium in 18:22. Harper Peters earned third place in 18:46, with Norah Pratt (19:32) and Alice Rourke (20:03) finishing fifth and seventh, respectively, to secure Exeter's team victory.

The dominance continued in the JV races. The boys JV team claimed the top six places, led by Owen Cosgrove at 18:01 and Neal Veeranna at 18:06. James Travis (18:11), Alex Harwich (18:22), Sean Ricard (18:31), and Mitchell Carson (18:39) completed the impressive sweep.

In the girls JV race, Big Red secured the first four finishes. Maryn Bowman and Sophia Butler crossed the line together in 20:39 to share the win, followed by Jocelyn Wen (20:51) and Lia Blitz (20:56) in third and fourth.

Exeter will look to carry its momentum on the road next weekend when the team travels to Deerfield Academy for the DA Invitational.
