Will Cavanagh potted the game-winning goal with just four-seconds left in overtime as Exeter topped Andover 3-2 in a thriller. Gathering the puck following an offensive zone face-off, defenseman
Brendan McCarthy sent the puck behind the Big Blue goal to
Dryden Dervish who fed a streaking Cavanagh in the slot where he beat the goalie to give Exeter the win.
Exeter opened the scoring early in the first period when
Max Lowe found the back of the net on a feed from Brendan St. Peter to give Big Red a 1-0 edge. The lead would not last long, however, as Andover would even the score just 25-seconds later.
The two teams would trade quick goals again in the second period.
Cam Fiasconaro scored a power play goal to give Exeter another one-goal lead, but Andover would come down and even the score just 15-seconds later. The score would remain the same through the third until Cavanagh capitalized for the game-winner in overtime.
Brendan Petraco was outstanding in goal for Big Red, thwarting away 34 Andover shots, including some big saves in the third period, to earn the win.
Exeter will return to their home ice and welcome Tabor Academy to campus on Wednesday for a 5:00pm start.
