Exeter boys hockey closed out their 2024 portion of the season with a thrilling 7-6 victory over Governor's Academy this afternoon. Brendan St. Peter led the Big Red offense with a trio of goals, including the game-winner with just 1:02 left on the clock.
Governor's scored the first two goals of the game to build a 2-0 lead midway through the opening period before St. Peter cut the Exeter deficit in half with his first tally of the game with 3:31 left in the period.
Gavin Fitzpatrick and
Will Cavanagh each earned an assist on the play. That goal injured the Exeter offense as it was the first of three unanswered as
Cam Fiasconaro and
Max Lowe each scored just 30-seconds apart to open the scoring in a wild second period that saw the teams combine for seven goals.
Big Red carried a 6-4 edge into the second intermission, but Governor's added a goal in the opening five minutes of the third before tying the game at 6-6 with just over four minutes to play.
St. Peter would give the lead back to the hosts when he tucked a shot past the Governor's goalie with just over a minute to play to give Exeter a 7-6 victory.
