Exeter girls soccer battled back from a second-half deficit to earn a 3-2 victory over Brooks on Wednesday afternoon on Phelps West Field.
Big Red struck first following a strong play in the midfield from
Urania Shi. Shi intercepted a Brooks pass and quickly pushed the attack forward, playing a leading ball to
Mandy Guo. Guo took a few touches to her right before lifting a right-footed strike from 25 yards out into the upper corner to give Exeter a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Brooks answered early in the second half, leveling the score with 28 minutes remaining on a finish from the right side of the box. Seven minutes later, the visitors created traffic in front of the Exeter goal and poked a shot through to grab a 2-1 lead.
Big Red responded quickly. With 19 minutes to play,
Emerson Call delivered a terrific individual effort to pull Exeter even. Call forced a turnover deep in the Brooks defensive end, worked her way through a trio of defenders and tucked a left-footed shot inside the far post to make it 2-2.
Exeter completed the comeback with 11 minutes remaining. Guo stepped up for a set piece from the top of the box and drilled a shot off the left post.
Scarlett Ring was in perfect position to clean up the rebound, punching it home to put Big Red back in front, 3-2. Exeter held off Brooks the rest of the way to secure the comeback victory.
Big Red returns to action Friday when it travels to Brewster Academy for a 5:00 p.m. start.
