Exeter boys tennis will play for a New England Championship after a pair of impressive victories on Saturday on the Exeter courts, advancing through the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds to earn a spot in Sunday's title match.
Big Red will face Brunswick School at Deerfield Academy on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. as Exeter looks to capture its first New England title since 2015.
Exeter opened the day with a decisive 4-0 win over Deerfield Academy in the quarterfinal round. Big Red secured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Art Chinsupakal and
Nathan Liu earned an 8-6 win at the top spot, while
Luke Sanders and
Hugo Shinn followed with an 8-5 decision to give the hosts an early advantage.
Exeter carried that momentum into singles play, where
David Dai dominated at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Hugo Shinn was equally impressive at No. 5, posting a 6-1, 6-0 win, and
Nathan Liu closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 6.
In the afternoon semifinal, Exeter delivered one of its strongest performances of the season, knocking off top-seeded Noble and Greenough School by a 4-2 margin.
After dropping the doubles point, Big Red responded with a dominant showing in singles. Art Chinsupakal rallied for a hard-fought 2-6, 6-3, 10-5 victory at No. 1. Josh Mullen added a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2, while
Luke Sanders earned a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 4.
Hugo Shinn continued his outstanding day with another 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5, and
Nathan Liu completed a perfect Saturday with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 6.
Exeter will look to finish its postseason run on Sunday and bring home the program's first New England championship in more than a decade.
