Girls wrestlers make history, boys star at Northern N.E.'s

Exeter wrestling put together a strong all-around effort on Saturday at the Northern New England Tournament hosted at the Hyde School, with multiple place-winners and a fifth-place team finish highlighting the day for Big Red.

Leading the charge were Zain Reza and Joe Kim, who each battled their way to second-place finishes in the 165-pound and heavyweight divisions, respectively. Nathi Lomax continued his strong season with a third-place finish at 132, while Henry Newby turned in a breakthrough performance, placing fifth at 120 in just his first tournament appearance. Big Red also received scoring contributions from Barry Hang (5th at 150), Luca Somma (4th at 157), Ese Okparavero (4th at 175), and Aaron Naudain (4th at heavyweight), as Exeter finished fifth overall in a competitive team field.

Also on Saturday, Exeter's girls wrestling program made history, traveling to Choate Rosemary Hall for the first-ever girls quad meet in New England prep wrestling. Big Red fell to Choate (48–6) and Phillips Academy Andover (34–16), but closed the day in dramatic fashion with a thrilling 34–30 victory over Northfield Mount Hermon.

The win over NMH marked a milestone moment for the program, standing as the first girls dual-meet victory in Exeter wrestling history—a significant step forward and, hopefully, the first of many as the program continues to grow.
