Exeter boys and girls crew opened up their competitive season with a strong performance at the annual Exeter Invitational on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA.
On the girls side, Exeter's first boat was in command and sprinted away from the field, crossing at 5:32.0, a full 18-seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Kent. Big Red also earned a first place finish in the third's race, as the crossed the line seven-seconds ahead of Hingham with a time of 5:31.5. The girls' second boat placed second overall with a time of 6:06.2, just three seconds behind Kent while the fourth boat claimed second overall with a time of 5:59.6.
On the boys side, Exeter claimed first place finishes in the first, third, and fourth boat races while claiming second overall in the second boat. Big Red's first boat cruised to a time of 5:40.0, seven seconds ahead of Kent while the third boat rowed to a time of 5:08.0. The fourth boat came in at 5:38.4 while the second boat finished at 5:01.9, just three seconds behind Kent.
With the strong performance from up and down the lineup, the annual Kent/Exeter Points Trophy was retained by Big Red.
Big Red will return to competition on Saturday, May 3 when they travel to Hanover High School at 3:00pm.
