THREE-PEAT! Girls swim & dive captures 3rd straight title, boys claim second

For the third consecutive year, the Exeter girls varsity swim and dive team clinched the New England championship, capping of an undefeated season with a dominant performance at the Division I Championships. Big Red captured their 19th title in program history and finished atop the standings by an astounding 71 points.

The Big Red boys swim and dive team also capped off a remarkable season, finishing second overall with an 8-1 overall record. The boys program has now placed in the top-four in 33 of the past 34 New England Championships meets.

Upper Mena Boardman was voted the recipient of The Robertson Award, given to the outstanding female student-athlete who best exemplifies the values of the league. Boardman had quite the day, earning individual victories in the 50 free and 100 backstroke while also helping lift Big Red to wins in the 200 medley relay, and 200 free relay. Boardman is the first Big Red recipient of the Robertson Award since Sydney Kang in 2022.  

Exeter's relay teams once again proved to be a strength. Brianna Cong, Ellen Jin, Boardman, and Sophie Phelps kicked off Sunday's finals with a bang, setting a division one record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:41.70 while Boardman, Cong, Phelps, and Chloe Meyer-Blohm captured a first-place finish in the 200 free relay, setting another division one record with a time of 1:32.93. The girls 400 free relay team of Meyer-Blohm, Li, Jin, and Gene Sunthornangsri finished second overall with a time of 3:32.98.

Boardman would follow up with first-place finish in the 100 backstroke with another division one record time of 53.22 while also collecting a win in the 50 free, touching at 22.24. Meyer-Blohm (54.87) and Elizabeth Li (57.97) followed Boardman in the 100 backstroke, finishing third and fourth, respectively, while Meyer-Blohm also captured a second place finish in the 50 free with a time of 24.03.
Cong also earned New England titles in the 200 free (1:51.83) and 100 fly (54.82) to cap her outstanding career. Sunthornangsri finished second overall in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.26.
Sophie Phelps swam to a first-place finish in the 100 free, racing to a time of 51.33.

Like the girls, the boys side saw both terrific performances in relays and through individual events. Ethan Guo, Fin McLane, Winston Wang, and Rudd Day raced to a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:31.43 while Day, Wang, Wayne Zheng, and Guo teamed up for a second place finish in the 200 free relay, touching at 1:23.13. The 400 free relay team of Nathan Ye, Leo Mizuno, Pow Phanratanamala, and Zheng captured fourth place overall with a time of 3:11.35.

Guo led the charge in individual events, earning victories in the 200 free and 100 backstroke. Guo won the 200 free with a division one record time of 1:36.76 while touching first in the 100 backstroke at 49:28.

Winston Wang enjoyed a strong day for Big Red and earned third place in the 100 free (45.54) and sixth in the 50 free (20.96). Rudd Day captured fifth place in the 100 free (46.52) and fifth in the 50 free (20.92) while Fin McLane earned a fifth place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.50.
