Big Red swimming & diving remains undefeated with victory over Choate

The boys' and girls' varsity swimming and diving teams kept their undefeated seasons rolling with a strong performance against the Wild Boars of Choate, improving to 7-0 on the year.

Big Red came out firing, with the girls team earning the top two spots in the medley relay. Brianna Cong, Sophie Phelps, Mena Boardman, and Chloe Meyer-Blohm took the win in 1:47.54. The boys were just as dominant, as Ethan Guo, Finley McLane, Rudd Day, and Winston Wang powered Big Red to victory in 1:35.27, setting the tone for the meet.

The momentum carried into the individual events, with Cong taking the 200 free for the girls and Pow Phanratanamala bringing home the win for the boys. Phelps and McLane kept things rolling with victories in the IM.

One of the biggest showdowns of the meet came in the 50 free, where Winston Wang faced off against Choate's Michael Xu in a rematch from last year. Xu got the better of Wang last season, but this time, Wang had the final word, touching first in a season-best 21.35.

On the boards, Ali Benson and Nic Limoli delivered wins in diving for the girls and boys, respectively. Other standout performances included Boardman and Guo taking the fly, Gene Sunthornrangsri and Wang winning the 100 free, and Boardman and Guo doubling up with wins in the 100 back. Ninth-grader Alice Wu continued to impress, grabbing the 100 breaststroke title for the girls, while McLane took the win for the boys.

It was another statement performance for Big Red, and both teams now sit at 7-0 with plenty of momentum heading into the next meet. The boys will square off at St. John's Prep on Wednesday at 4:00p in the final tuneup before the Eastern Interscholastic Championships.
