The Exeter Swimming and Diving teams delivered their best-ever performance at the Eastern Championships, held at Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, PA, competing against 39 schools. The boys' team finished in third place, while the girls' team secured fourth, leading to an impressive third-place finish in the combined standings.
The meet started with a statement on night one as both the boys and girls won the 200 freestyle relay, setting the tone for an incredible weekend. The girls' team of
Chloe Meyer-Blohm,
Brianna Cong,
Sophie Phelps, and
Mena Boardman blazed to a 1:32.09 finish, shattering both the school and New England records. Not to be outdone, the boys' team of
Ethan Guo,
Rudd Day,
Wayne Zheng, and
Winston Wang posted a blistering 1:21.66, also rewriting the school and New England record books.
Night two brought more history-making performances, highlighted by thrilling victories in the 400 freestyle relays. The girls' team of Cong, Phelps, Meyer-Blohm, and Boardman delivered a stunning come-from-behind win, clocking 3:20.03. Boardman anchored with an incredible 47.64 split to seal the victory. The boys' team of Guo, Wang, Day, and Zheng dominated from start to finish, touching in 2:59.93 to secure another relay title.
Individually, Exeter swimmers delivered record-breaking performances across the board.
Ethan Guo captured the 200 freestyle title in 1:35.74, setting a New England record. He followed that up with a commanding performance in the 100 backstroke (46.73) and 100 freestyle (44.05), taking down both school and New England records.
Mena Boardman was equally dominant, winning the 100 butterfly (51.32) and 100 freestyle (48.71), both in record-breaking fashion.
Beyond the record-setters, Exeter saw tremendous efforts across the team, with multiple swimmers earning finals spots and critical points. Nic Limoli delivered in diving, placing fifth and providing a major boost to the overall team effort.
This was a historic showing for Exeter, marking the program's best-ever finish at Easterns. Up next, Exeter and Andover will meet up this week for their annual battle. The divers will head to Andover on Wednesday before the swimming portion of the meet taking place in Exeter on Saturday.
