The Exeter girls swimming and diving team continued its remarkable run atop New England swimming and diving this weekend, capturing its fourth consecutive New England Division I Championship with a dominant performance. Big Red amassed 434.5 points, finishing 108 points ahead of the runner-up.
Leading the way was senior
Mena Boardman, whose historic meet earned her the Robertson Award, presented by league coaches to the outstanding student-athlete who best exemplifies the values of New England Prep School Swimming and Diving. Boardman delivered one of the most impressive individual performances of the championship, winning the 200 freestyle in 1:47.22 and the 100 freestyle in 48.62. Both swims set meet, school, and New England records, adding to her illustrious career as one of the most accomplished swimmers in program history. Boardman also provided the fastest splits on Exeter's victorious 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay, playing a central role in four championship efforts.
Exeter opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, as
Chloe Meyer-Blohm,
Ellen Jin,
Mena Boardman, and
Jane Lamberton combined for a time of 1:41.31, establishing a new Division I record. Later in the meet, the quartet of
Chloe Meyer-Blohm,
Gene Sunthornrangsri,
Ellen Jin, and Boardman closed the championships with another win in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:25.83.
Boardman's individual dominance in the 200 freestyle was complemented by a strong showing from
Jane Lamberton, who placed third in 1:54.64. Lamberton also contributed heavily throughout the meet, including a fifth-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:07.01) and swimming on the championship 200 freestyle relay, where she joined
Alice Wu,
Elizabeth Li, and
Gene Sunthornrangsri to claim the New England title in 1:37.00.
Chloe Meyer-Blohm delivered a standout meet of her own, capturing the New England title in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.60. She also placed third in the 50 freestyle (24.30) and played key roles on both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay championship teams.
Elizabeth Li added a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle (24.66) and fifth in the 100 backstroke (57.60) while contributing to the winning 200 freestyle relay.
In the breaststroke events,
Ellen Jin rose to the top of the podium, winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.96, a performance that established a new school record. Jin also placed third in the 200 individual medley (2:05.72) and swam key legs on both the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay champions.
Alice Wu added a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.86).
Gene Sunthornrangsri earned third place in the 100 butterfly (56.72) and fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:06.56) while also contributing to the winning 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay.
Aaliya Huang added an eighth-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:20.73).
Additional scoring performances came from
Shawna Jiang, who finished fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:11.56), and
Sarah Manor, who placed seventh in the 100 butterfly (59.22) and fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.08).
Ava Chung rounded out the finals scoring in the butterfly with an eighth-place finish in 59.72.
On the boys' side, Exeter placed fourth overall, highlighted by a pair of New England championships from
Fin McLane. McLane captured the 200 individual medley in 1:48.67 before returning later in the meet to win the 100 breaststroke in 54.30, a performance that set both a Division I record and a new school record.
Nathan Ye also delivered an exceptional meet, claiming the New England title in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.18 and adding a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:32.04). Ye later helped anchor Exeter's 400 freestyle relay, teaming with
Luca Zhu, McLane, and
Wayne Zheng to finish second overall.
Zhu added additional points with a seventh-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:44.21) and also swam on the fifth-place 200 freestyle relay alongside
Ethan Lu,
Pow Phanratanamala, and
Derek Feng, which posted a time of 1:27.82.
Wayne Zheng scored in both of his individual events, finishing sixth in the 50 freestyle (21.03) and sixth in the 100 freestyle (46.69), while contributing to the strong runner-up finish in the 400 freestyle relay.
Ethan Lu added key points in multiple events, placing sixth in the 100 butterfly (51.27) and eighth in the 100 backstroke (52.31) while swimming on the 200 freestyle relay.
Nick Limoli captured third placed overall in the 1m diving section, while
Teddy Hosmer earned a sixth place finish.
