Exeter Swimming & Diving turned in a stellar performance at the Eastern Interscholastic Championships at Franklin & Marshall University, led by a historic weekend from
Mena Boardman, who was named Swimmer of the Meet for the third time in her career. The girls side placed fourth overall while the boys earned a fifth place finish; Exeter placed fourth overall in the combined team results.
Boardman dominated both individually and in relays, winning the 100 butterfly in 51.96 before delivering one of the signature swims of the meet in the 100 backstroke. After breaking the school, pool, Easterns, and New England records in prelims with a 52.67, she returned in finals to lower the mark again to 52.42 to secure the title. She was also central to Exeter's relay success, swimming with the record-setting 200 medley relay (1:40.37) that established new school, meet, pool, and New England records, and anchoring the second-place 400 freestyle relay (3:25.09) with a blazing 47.88 split to close the meet.
The girls squad as a whole delivered one of the strongest Easterns showings in program history. The meet opened with
Chloe Meyer-Blohm,
Ellen Jin, Boardman, and
Jane Lamberton capturing gold in the 200 medley relay, a swim that reset four different standards.
Meyer-Blohm followed with a standout individual performance in the 100 backstroke, surging from third in prelims to second overall in 54.99, dropping more than half a second as Exeter claimed the top two spots in the event.
Jin produced a record-breaking performance in the 100 breaststroke, setting a school record of 1:04.00 in prelims and lowering it again to 1:03.93 in finals to place fourth, while also contributing to both the medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Exeter's sprint depth was on display in the 200 freestyle relay, where
Alice Wu,
Laurel Van De Water,
Elizabeth Li, and
Gene Sunthornrangsri placed sixth in the 200 freestyle relay while Meyer-Blohm, Jin, Sunthornrangsri, and Boardman combined for a runner-up finish to cap the weekend in the 400 freestyle relay.
The boys side also saw multiple podiums finishes in both the individual events and relays. The 200 medley relay of
Ethan Lu,
Fin McLane,
Nathan Ye, and
Wayne Zheng opened the meet with a third-place finish in 1:32.71, setting the tone for the rest of the weekend.
McLane delivered a pair of outstanding individual swims, taking third in the 200 IM (1:49.34) and finishing second in the 100 breaststroke (55.04), while also playing a key role on the relays. Ye captured a fourth place finish in the 200 yard freestyle, touching at 1:39.83, dropping 1.7 seconds from his prelims heat. Lu added an individual finals appearance in the 100 butterfly, placing seventh in 50.50, in addition to his relay contributions.
Zheng reached the championship final in the 100 freestyle, where he placed eighth in 46.50, and was a consistent force across both medley and freestyle relays alongside Ye and
Luca Zhu, who helped round out the 400 freestyle relay. In diving, Nick Limoli secured a fifth-place finish, adding valuable points and another top performance for Big Red.
