Stewart Lindsay '52 dedicates Hall of Fame plaque to Exeter

Exeter is honored to receive an extraordinary gift from Stewart Lindsay '52, who generously donated his National Lacrosse Hall of Fame plaque during a brief ceremony on Saturday afternoon. A standout in both lacrosse and football during his time on campus, Lindsay went on to an unmatched playing and coaching career that left a lasting impact on the sport.ATH_2025_Stewart Lindsay Dedication 3

Members of the community gathered in the Hahn Room for the presentation and were treated to gracious remarks from Lindsay, Principal Bill Rawson, former Exeter head coach Eric Bergofsky, and current head coach Bill Glennon. Lindsay was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1976 with plenty of accolades on his resume. After re-writing the Exeter record books, including setting the all-time scoring record after registering more than 100 goals in his three-year career, Lindsay went on to do the same at Syracuse University where he was a three-time All-American selection. At the time of his induction, Lindsay held the records for most goals in a game, season, and career for the Orange.

"Exeter is where this plaque belongs because this is where I became a lacrosse player and really learned my love for the game," said Lindsay as he addressed the current boys varsity lacrosse team, alumni, and faculty in attendance.

After his playing career, Lindsay started the lacrosse program at Cheshire Academy before spending 35 years as head coach of the boys lacrosse team at Kingswood Oxford. Lindsay spent a lifetime inspiring, leading, and guiding generations of student-athletes and being an advocate for the sport of lacrosse, and we are honored that he chose to share this gift with Big Red.
