Exeter boys water polo capped their 2025 campaign with a third place finish in the New England Championships on Saturday inside the Roger A. Nekton Championship Pool.
Carrying an 8-2 league record, Big Red entered the tournament as the third seed and a first round matchup with sixth-seeded Hamden Hall. Â league record boys water polo claimed third overall in the New England Championships. Big Red claimed a dramatic 15-13 victory over the Hornets in the first match of the day.
Mateo Sandhu and
Andrew Gao each found the back of the net five times to lead Big Red to the semifinal round. In the semifinals, Gao potted six goals, but Big Red could not outlast a tough Choate squad as the Wild Boars defeated the hosts 12-8.
Exeter would play their third match of the day against Greenwich Country Day School where they grinded out an 11-10 victory to claim third place in New England. Once again it was Sandhu and Gao who led the charge as the duo combined for nine goals.
Big Red finishes their 2025 season with a 15-4 overall record.
