McBrearty took the helm of the Bentley University women's lacrosse program in 2013. In her first four seasons running the program, she guided the Falcons to playoff berths each time in the highly competitive Northeast-10 Conference each season.

Under McBrearty’s tutelage, the Falcons had a record setting 2016 season. The team reeled off a program record 11-game winning streak, tied a school record with 13 wins, and advanced to the NE10 semifinals for the first time since 2012. Bentley finished the season ranked 14th in the IWLCA's Division II Top 20 Poll.

In 2015, McBrearty led Bentley to a 10-win season overall and a 9-4 mark in the NE-10 as they reached the NE-10 Playoffs for the 2nd straight time to begin her tenure. The team was ranked in the IWCLA's Division II Top-20 Poll nearly the entire season.

Prior to her time at Bentley, McBrearty guided Roger Williams University to the conference playoffs in both seasons at the helm of the program. In her first season (2012), she led RWU to a road playoff win while coaching three All-Conference performers.

Prior to arriving at Roger Williams, McBrearty spent two seasons as the head coach at Queens College (N.Y.), which included coaching the Knights during their inaugural varsity season of 2010. She led Queens to a seven-win improvement during her second season in 2011.

Before becoming the head coach at Queens, McBrearty was an assistant coach at Northeast-10 rival American International for the 2008 and 2009 seasons and the head varsity lacrosse coach at the Dalton school from 2004-2007.

A 2004 graduate of Springfield College,  McBrearty was a three-year member of the women's lacrosse team as a defenseman, and rose to team captain as a senior.
