Coach Shang has been a part of the Exeter community since 2008 and was named head coach of boys’ squash at Phillips Exeter Academy. The program focuses on creating a team environment in an individual sport, establishing a culture of supporting each other through team building and personal discussions. We focus on producing team members with good sportsmanship, a will to compete, and empathy towards one another. Playing in the most competitive league in the country, Exeter consistently places in the top-16 of the league.
Prior to coaching the boys, Shang was the head coach for the girls squash team starting in 2017. Coaching girls that have gone on to play at UPenn, Wesleyan, Dennison, MIT, Colby, Middlesex, and Bowdoin. Prior to 2017, Coach Shang was the assistant coach for girls’ squash program from 2011 to 2017.
In addition to coaching squash, Shang also serves as an instructor in the Physical Education Department and is also the head coach for girls varsity volleyball and boys varsity volleyball.
Shang is married to his wife, Leanne, and have two daughters Harper and Skye.
