Adam White was named head coach of the boys lacrosse program in August of 2025.
White comes to Exeter from St. Sebastian’s School in Needham, Massachusetts, where he served as an English teacher since 2012 and head lacrosse coach since 2017. During his tenure with the lacrosse team, the Arrows won two Independent School League Championships, twice made it to the semi-finals of the Geico National Tournament, and were regularly ranked in the top-25 nationally, rising as high as #5 in the country. His players have gone on to play lacrosse at many of the nation’s top programs, including Duke, Cornell, Harvard, Penn, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Michigan, Denver, Johns Hopkins, Tufts, Amherst, and Middlebury. In 2019, White was named the ISL’s Coach of the Year, and in 2022 USA Lacrosse honored him with the Gerry Carroll Award, given to one high school coach nationwide for exemplary service on and off the field.
White is also a successful writer. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University, and his novel, The Midcoast, was published in 2022 by Penguin Random House, becoming a New York Times’ Editors’ Choice and a national bestseller. An adaptation of the novel is currently in development with 20th Century television and FX. Earlier in his career, he was nominated for an Emmy for his work as a documentary producer on Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare and served as story consultant on the Academy Award-nominated documentary Cartel Land.
White grew up in Damariscotta, Maine, and came to Exeter as a prep, graduating in 2001. At Exeter, he earned varsity letters in football, hockey, and lacrosse. He then went on to Dartmouth College, where he was a four-year starter for the lacrosse team, earning All-Ivy and Academic All-Ivy honors. The team won a share of the 2003 Ivy League Championship and played in the NCAA tournament. White was a co-captain of the team his senior year.
