NFL veteran Ryan Griffin joined the staff in 2024. Currently serving as defensive coordinator, he also leads the defensive line and tight ends for Exeter. Coach Griffin also plays a critical role in Exeter’s special teams, bringing significant experience for his playing days in the NFL A New Hampshire native, Griffin was a two-time All-Big East tight end at the University of Connecticut and a John Mackey Award finalist as one of college football’s top tight ends. While at UConn, Griffin was named the program’s 2012 offensive player of the year. After his storied career at UConn, Griffin was selected by the Houston Texans in the 2013 NFL Draft. He spent ten years playing in the NFL for the Houston Texans, New York Jets, and Chicago Bears. In so doing, he was a top performing tight end and special teams mainstay throughout his decade-long career. Griffin recently retired from professional football, finishing his time in the NFL with over 2,000 yards receiving and 14 career touchdowns. He and his wife, Elise, are proud parents to James, Betsy, and Hallie.
