The William Boyce Thompson Field House

The William Boyce Thompson Field House opened its doors in 2018 with the entire community in mind. The need for a modern multipurpose space for athletes to train and compete in was answered with a 85,000 square foot field house. The ground floor is covered in a synthetic surface made for running sports and contains a 200-meter, six-lane track oval, with eight lanes on the straightaway, meeting NCAA regulations. There are also dedicated areas for shot put, long jump, high jump, pole vault and triple jumps allowing for events to be running simultaneously. The lower level offers seating for 500 spectators in addition to a live stream system to broadcast all home events. Results and pertninent information is displayed on a large video board on the south end of the facility to keep athletes and spectators updated throughout competition. The ground floor also houses a multi-functional infield with four indoor tennis courts while two batting cages reside on the outside of the oval. With the capacity to hold different activities at the same time, a netting system is suspended from the ceiling to allow simultaneous usage of spaces in a safe manner.

The second level of the facility houses an 8,000 square-foot wrestling center, with two live stream cameras for live broadcasting matches and spectator seating, and the adjacent Hahn Room, an area for events, meetings, classes, and spectacular views of south campus.

In 2019, the field house was recognized by the New Hampshire chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council as its Sustainable Building of the Year. The field house is LEED Gold certified, boasts a solar array consisting of 1,552 panels that generate nearly 600,000-kilowatt hours of electricity annually and includes salvaged wood, LED lighting and a 169-car parking garage with six electric vehicle charging stations in its construction.
